Organized Crime

The SIAC focuses on emerging threats to the State of Utah from transnational and domestic drug trafficking organizations, criminal gangs, human trafficking/human smuggling organizations and organized criminal fraud groups.

The SIAC provides operational and investigative support to law enforcement task forces; as well as provides a strategic outlook on identified threat areas for state and local law enforcement leadership.

Utah Fentanyl Task Force

The Fentanyl Task Force is committed to addressing the fentanyl crisis by identifying and resolving critical gaps in data collection, prevention, treatment, awareness and law enforcement efforts.

The SIAC collaborates to provide illicit fentanyl and drug seizure information through the Utah Drug Seizure Statistics Dashboard, to better understand the impact of fentanyl on Utah communities.

Utah Drug Monitoring Initiative

The Utah Drug Monitoring Initiative (DMI) was developed by the SIAC to provide a historical review of the impact of illicit and prescription drugs to the State of Utah, as well as identify emerging substances or trends that pose a threat to public health and public safety in Utah. Primary focus in the program is given to threats from opioids, which includes prescription medication, heroin, fentanyl, and other synthetic substances that continue to emerge.

In addition, DMI focuses on the threat from methamphetamine, cocaine, and other illicit drug use and distribution throughout Utah. The Utah DMI supports information sharing and follows the guidance of the White House through the Opioid Response Strategy (ORS) program, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Program, and the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
