Intimate Partner Domestic Violence Data Analysis
Starting July 1, 2023, state law mandated that law enforcement officers assess the potential lethality for every intimate partner domestic violence incident using Utah’s Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP). “Yes” to certain questions within the assessment is automatically categorized as “potentially lethal,” allowing law enforcement to provide resources on scene to the victim.
The Utah Statewide Information and Analysis Center (SIAC) supports law enforcement by providing officers with rapid 24/7, comprehensive offender history reports, aiding courts in making informed decisions about pretrial release conditions and ultimately enhancing victim safety. Individuals wanting to report domestic violence should reach out to their local law enforcement agency.
The SIAC shares information about submitted IPV LAPs to promote public awareness, inform policy makers, and identify trends and gaps. The reported numbers may change at any time due to updated submissions or the nature of raw reporting.
Domestic Violence Reports
In addition to 24/7 support of IPV LAP submissions, the SIAC provides timely analysis and insights to law enforcement, service providers, and policy makers about domestic violence in Utah.
